University of Tasmania Courses

Admission to Graduate Certificate courses at the University of Tasmania normally requires the prior completion of an AQF7 (or equivalent) undergraduate degree. Specific requirements for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Economic Geology are as follows:

(i) a Bachelor of Science/Applied Science majoring in geoscience, or

(ii) a minimum of two years' employment as a geoscientist in the minerals industry or government.

To demonstrate eligibility for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Economic Geology, applicants must provide a copy of their undergraduate academic transcript/s. Where seeking entry partly or solely based on an applicant's previous professional experience, a curriculum vitae and the names and contact details for two professional referees should be provided.

International applicants to the Graduate Certificate in Economic Geology (K5F) must meet the same entry requirements as Domestic students. Additionally, international applicants from non-English speaking countries must meet the following English language test requirements:

English Language Requirements

For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided.

a) Australian Bachelor Degree or equivalent level standard in any other institution in an unrelated discipline and a minimum of one year relevant work experience in the health sector

OR

b) A minimum of five years approved relevant work experience in the health sector or other special circumstances (e.g. post-secondary qualifications) as approved by the Dean or delegated authority.

Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Health Protection requires

• A relevant undergraduate degree at AQF7 level in fields such as health sciences, medicine, nursing, science, psychology, social sciences, health professions and health services management,
• OR Equivalent relevant industry experience.

Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Health Protection requires

• A relevant undergraduate degree at AQF7 level in fields such as health sciences, medicine, nursing, science, psychology, social sciences, health professions and health services management, and
• English Language: IELTS 7.0 (no band less than 6.5)
  

Applicants must have practiced as a Registered Nurse for at least six (6) months full time equivalence since graduation from a university program, prior to start of the Course.

Applicants must provide evidence of Ahpra registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with no restrictions or conditions.

Midwives must have a nursing qualification to be eligible to apply.

This course includes compulsory Professional Experience Placements. You must meet the College of Health and Medicine's Safety in Practice Requirements before census date of the first semester of your Course. The safety in practice requirements are completed separately to the course admission application.

The Child and Family Health specialisation is placement based and is only available for nurses in certain geographical areas, specifically Tasmania and some LHD's in NSW.

This Course is not available to international students. Please enquire online for advice on alternative course options.

To be eligible for an offer applicants must have:

• An AQF 7 or above Bachelor level degree in Pharmacy from an Australian Pharmacy Council APC accredited undergraduate program from UTAS or another university or tertiary institution that is deemed equivalent.
• Evidence of current AHPRA registration under the General Registration Type for the profession of Pharmacist, without conditions or notations, or equivalent evidence of registration in another country. AHPRA registrations will be confirmed and applicants with conditions or notations will be referred to the School for review.

To be eligible for an offer applicants must have:

• An AQF 7 or above Bachelor level degree in Pharmacy from an Australian Pharmacy Council APC accredited undergraduate program or another university or tertiary institution that is deemed equivalent.
• Evidence of current AHPRA registration under the General Registration Type for the profession of Pharmacist, without conditions or notations, or equivalent evidence of registration in another country.
• International applicants are required to meet the English Language test requirement of IELTS 7.0 with no individual band less than 7.0.

This course is only available to international students on an approved pathway to the Master of Social Work (Qualifying). Domestic students should apply for direct entry into R7O Master of Social Work (Qualifying).

Bachelor's degree in a related field:
A bachelor's degree other than in Social Work from the University of Tasmania or approved tertiary institution with:

• a major or equivalent in a related field such as social sciences, behavioural sciences, psychology, nursing or education.
• a minimum of 4 units (50 credit points) or equivalent in studies of society and studies of behavioural or psychological sciences.

These 4 units (50 credit points) must have been completed within 9 years of admission to the Graduate Certificate of Social Care (International Pathway).

Students with a Bachelor's degree in a non-related field:
Students with a Bachelor's degree in a non-related field may:

• complete up to 4 units (50 credit points) from the Bachelor of Social Work with Honours, comprising 2 units (25 credit points) of Core units at Introductory (100) level and 2 units (25 credit points) of Core units at Intermediate (200) level.

English Language Requirements
IELTS (Academic) 6.5.

Students who successfully pass all 50 credit points in the Graduate Certificate of Social Care (International Pathway) and obtain a score of 7.0 or higher in IELTS, will have the option to articulate into the Master of Social Work (Qualifying), receiving 50 credit points of advanced standing.

Safety in Practice Compliance
Students who articulate to the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) need to complete a Safety in Practice Agreement to meet pre-practicum requirements. We will consider a range of factors for special consideration, including economic hardship, a serious medical condition or disability.

We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. For accreditation with the professional body (Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA)) international students or domestic students who have not completed secondary education in an English speaking institution require English Language: IELTS (Academic) - 7.0 (no individual band less than 7.0) (International) For more information see the Exercise and Sports Science Australia website.

All international students will need to meet the minimum English Language Requirements, University General Entry Requirements and any course specific requirements such as pre-requisite subjects, if applicable.

This degree requires an IELTS (Academic) of 6.0, with no individual band less than 5.5, or a PTE Academic score of 50, with no score lower than 42 or equivalent.

This degree program is available to students who have completed years 1 and 2 in the Bachelor Science (Marine Science) degree at the Ocean University of China. These students will complete years 3 and 4 requirements as described in the "Course Structure" section above.
