About this scholarship

The Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Research Scholarship (SJMN) is funded by a private trust and was established in memory of the late Sir James McNeill, who had a long association with Monash University. Helps support a student with living costs whilst studying at Monash.

Eligibility

You must be one of the following:

  • An Australian citizen
  • A New Zealand citizen
  • Australian permanent resident
  • Australian humanitarian visa holder
  • An International student

You must meet the following criteria:

This scholarship is also available to students undertaking Joint Research Awards when Monash University is the home institution.

Selection criteria

Monash scholarships are very competitive and are awarded based on your academic record, any research outputs, and prior research experience.

The standard RTP Scholarships terms and conditions as outlined in the RTP Scholarship Procedures apply, with the exceptions outlined in the eligibility criteria above.

This scholarship is open to those conducting research within the faculties of Arts (School of Music only); Engineering; Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Science.

Application process

Application for graduate research scholarships is done at the time of applying for your course unless you are already enrolled.  A single application is used for both admission and scholarship. You do not need to specify which scholarship you are applying to as you are automatically considered for all graduate research scholarships (where eligible).
