There are now at least 9 different genogroups of IBDV (A1 to A9) known to be circulating worldwide, two of which are found in Australia (A7 and A8). This project will focus on developing molecular tests to rapidly detect and differentiate the different genogroups of IBDV circulating worldwide. As part of this project, whole genome sequencing of selected IBDV strains will be undertaken to assist in the identification of regions to target for quantitative PCR (qPCR). In addition, surveillance of IBDV in wild bird populations will also be undertaken to better understand the role different species play in the spread of IBDV.
