The transition to net zero emissions will require substantial shifts in skill and labour requirements across a range of Australian industrial sectors. Regional areas are likely to be particularly exposed to large changes. Furthermore, the nature of changes will differ according to the nature of the transition for Australia including: the mix of technologies that are likely to play a major role; how industry structure changes as part of the transition (e.g., spatial and temporal shifts in electricity supply and demand), and the growth in related sectors such as hydrogen and critical minerals. This project involves working with a range of CSIRO scientists to explore where and in what ways labour supply and skills may constrain or support Australia's transition towards net zero emissions.
